New Delhi, Nov 13: While there will be a holiday for schools and government offices in Delhi on the occasion of Children’s Day, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government has also deferred the ‘Dilli for children festival’ scheduled to be held on November 14 to November 19 due to the dense smog situation prevailing on the national capital. November 14 is celebrated as Children’s Day or Bal Diwas across the country to commemorate the birth anniversary of India’s first Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru.

“Because of the #Delhi smog, the #Delhi 4 Children festival which was scheduled on November 14, now will be held on November 19,” tweeted Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Thursday. The Delhi government had planned cultural programmes and other activities for Children’s Day on November 14. However, the smog situation forced the AAP government to postpone the celebration.

According to Manish Sisodia, schools and offices in Delhi have been given a holiday on Children’s Day to encourage people to attend the programmes with their children. “We want to send a message to the children that Delhi enjoys with your enjoyment,” Sisodia had said. Delhi and NCR have been witnessing toxic thick smog since last few days. The maximum Air quality in the national capital and its nearby areas is hovering between 400-700, which is above the danger level.
