Throwing his mighty weight behind Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s controversial new film Padmavati, superstar Salman Khan has said that people should judge Bhansali by the beauty of his films and his past track record.

In an interview promo for CNNnews18, Salman is heard saying, “I believe that the censor board should take the decision. Sanjay makes very beautiful and nice films. His heroines are very beautiful and good-looking.”

He further adds, “His (Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s) movies have never contained any vulgarity or disgust. So by looking at his past track record, one should get a sense that he will never portray anyone in a bad light.”

Starring Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor. Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s period drama film Padmavati has been controversy’s favourite child ever since the Rajput fringe group Karni Sena started protesting against the film for the allegedly ‘romance’ between Rani Padmini and Alauddin Khilji.

Interestingly, previous reports had claimed that Sanjay Leela Bhansali originally intended to cast Salman Khan and his ex-ladylove Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in the lead roles of Padmavati.

Salman and Aish had starred together in Bhansali’s hit 1999 romantic film Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. Salman Khan and Sanjay Leela Bhansali have collaborated together in films like Khamoshi: The Musical and Saawariya.

Recently, the trailer of Salman Khan’s upcoming film Tiger Zinda Hai was released which revives his character of an Indian RAW agent from Kabir Khan’s EK Tha Tiger. The film reunites Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif onscreen. Tiger Zinda Hai has been directed by Ali Abbas Zafar.

If recent reports are to be believed, the Central Board Of Film Certification (CBFC) has demanded a change in Katrina Kaif’s character’s nationality in the film. As we know, Katrina plays the role of Pakistani spy in the film, a sub-plot that hasn’t gone down well with the CBFC amid the rising cross-border tensions between the two nations.
