NEW DELHI: After its stations, Delhi Metro is now going to install artwork on its lifts too. “Lifts at 11 stations on the upcoming Majlis Park-Shiv Vihar corridor (Pink Line) of Phase III will get a new look with the artwork being installed on the shafts, the external portion of the lifts visible at stations,” said a Delhi Metro Rail Corporation spokesperson (DMRC).
The 11 stations are Netaji Subhash Place, Shalimar Bagh, Narayana, Bhikaji Cama Place, Sarojini Nagar, South Extension, INA, Lajpat Nagar, Vinobapuri, Nizamuddin and Ashram. “Digital glass prints will be installed to beautify the station area,” he added.
The artwork chosen for the project will be based on themes like nature, Indian classical dance forms, etc. “The designs were prepared by DMRC’s own team of architects. Earlier, artwork and installations were also fixed at many metro stations. In Phase II, the lift shaft at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium Metro Station was decorated with artwork,” the spokesperson said.
