NEW DELHI: Alarmed at the growing complaints of respiratory problems by traffic police personnel, the department has started a mandatory health check-up of the 5,000-strong unit, who stay on the road amidst severe pollution levels.
For the next few days, 500 policemen will undergo check-up every day and get appropriate treatment by lungs specialists if any problem is detected. On Monday, around 80 cops were diagnosed with respiratory issues and had symptoms of pulmonary stress, Dependra pathak, special commissioner (Traffic) confirmed. Pathak promised all pollution and health-related assistance to his men on-the-ground.
“They were advised to wear pollution mask while performing duty apart from doing breathing exercises. Traffic policemen were also advised to do meditation for around five minutes per day and eat a healthy low-oil diet,” Pathak added.
