NEW DELHI: This festival season, the excise department is keeping a close watch on restaurants and bars for violations – ranging from illegal sale of liquor to underage drinking. While the jury is out on lowering the minimum drinking age from the current 25 years to 18 or 21, the department is determined to implement the rules as they stand.
Excise commissioner Amjad Tak told that the department had decided to inspect and act severely against violations by restaurants, pubs and bars that had a liquor licence. “The idea is to plug leaks in the system, crack down on a possible nexus between restaurants and liquor suppliers and check underage drinking.”
