Neighbourhood News Desk/Avi Arya: A 17-year-old boy allegedly mowed down a man at a traffic junction in northwest Delhi’s Prashant Vihar on Tuesday while driving his father’s car. On Wednesday 25-year-old victim battled for his life for nearly 24 hours before succumbing to his injuries.Police registered a case of causing death by negligence against the boy and booked his father under Motor Vehicles Act for letting his underage son drive his car.
Minors driving vehicles has been a menace in Delhi that has led to many accidents over the last few years. From 2012 to 2016, the Delhi Traffic Police prosecuted over 1.9 lakh persons for giving their vehicles to minors to drive. The Motor Vehicle Act prescribes a penalty of Rs 1,000 for the vehicle owner in such cases.
