‘Clothes don’t provoke rape, sick mentality does’

Neighbourhood News Desk/Avi Arya: Male volunteers of the Delhi Commission for Women’s (DCW) “Rape Roko” campaign today marched in boxer shorts to send out a message to the self-proclaimed “custodians of patriarchal society” that clothes do not cause rape, sick mentality does. Out to challenge the sickening mindset that never fails to shame survivors on account of clothes they wear, the men held placards with slogans like “Her clothes are not short, your mentality is” and “What clothes was the eight-month-old baby wearing?”.

Agitated about the governments’ “nonchalance and silence”, they appealed to people to join in a human chain against sexual offences against women and children on International Women’s Day (March 8) here for a strong law of death penalty to rapists of children.
