Neighbourhood Technology Desk: Xiaomi on Thursday launched a new smartphone in China. Called Redmi S2, the new smartphone is focused at selfie enthusiasts.Comes with a 16-megapixel front-facing camera with a range of Artificial Intelligence-based features for better portrait shots.
The smartphone looks quite similar to the recent Xiaomi smartphones. Has an 18:9 display but with thicker bezels on the top and bottom. The top has 3.5mm headphone jack while base features USB port with speaker grilles.The back has two cameras on the left top corner and a fingerprint sensor at the centre. Antenna lines run around the border of the phone, making the back panel look neater. Is available in three colour options – pink, grey and gold.
Has a 5.99-inch HD+ LCD display. It runs on Android Oreo-based MIUI 9.5 custom ROM and is powered by Qualcomm’s mid-range focused Snapdragon 625 processor.Is available in two variants featuring 3GB of RAM and 32GB storage, and 4GB of RAM and 64GB storage. The phone comes with a microSD slot for expandable storage.
Redmi S2’s highlight is the camera. On the back it has a dual-camera setup, consisting of a 12-megapixel sensor and a 5-megapixel sensor. On the front, it has a 16-megapixel sensor. Key camera features include phase detection auto focus (PDAF), electronic image stabilization (EIS), and full HD video recording support. Connectivity options include dual-SIM, 4G, 4G VoLTE, and a 3,080mAh battery.
