Neighbourhood Travel Desk: Amer Fort, Rajasthan was personalized under the reign of the Founder and the Ruler of Jaipur city Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh. Constructed under the rule of Raja Man Singh in the year 1952. It is actually situated in Amber which is 11 kilometres from Jaipur. Amer was the capital of the state before Jaipur. It is also called as Amer palace. It was made of red sandstone and marble. It has influences of both Hindu and Muslim architecture. This fort also has the ‘Shila Devi’ Temple and the ‘Ganesh Pol’ which is a gate that leads to the private palaces of the kings. The structure has four different parts, each with a separate entrance. The main entrance to the fort is through the ‘Suraj Pol’ or Sun Gate which opens up into the main courtyard. The ‘Jaleb Chowk’ is one of the four courtyards of the Amer Palace. The second courtyard is famous for its ‘Diwan-i-Aam’ (Public Audience Hall), the ‘Sheesh Mahal’ and the ‘Sukh Mahal’. A very famous attraction here is the ‘Magic Flower’, a fresco carved out of marble. Nearby tourists attractions are Jaigarh ford, Aravalli hills, Vijay Garh. The Amer fort is the UNESCO’s world heritage site. It is one of the largest forts in Rajasthan.
Elephant Ride in Amer fort is the most famous thing to do here and the rides are taken from down through the narrow Sun Gate at Amer. It is a unique experience to explore the fort via elephants. The well- organized evening Sound and Light Show in Amer Fort are fascinating attractions of the Amber Fort, where you will be narrated a story of the Kings of Jaipur in an amazing manner. The stories are accompanied by beautiful folk songs in the background. The Amber Fort is closed on the day of Holi Festival, every year and it opens daily from 9:30 to 4:30 for General Public. From Jaipur, you can hire a private Jeep or a shared taxi up to the Fort.
