Neighbourhood Travel Desk: Millions of Americans will travel with their furry friends over Memorial Day weekend, and hotels are tapping in on the trend by welcoming pet owners and offering special pet perks free of charge.
Pet owners are part of a growing customer base for hotels.
A Trip-Advisor survey found more than 50-percent of respondents that travel said they travel with their pets and will only stay at pet-friendly properties.
Businesses are accommodating and making products so it’s easier to travel with their furry family members. Plus, more hotel chains are going pet-friendly, with more than 3,000 locations nationwide. Demand is continuing to grow.
“Book early since hotels have limited number of pet-friendly rooms they tend to book up quickly especially since traveling with your pet is becoming a bigger trend,” said Lauren Greer of Bringfido. Pets can receive a warm welcome at Aloft Hotel in Asheville, North Carolina.
A treat bag, bowls, and a pet bed are provided in the room free of charge. Pet amenities such as a rooftop dog park are also attracting guests. Aloft also keeps a foster dog available for adoption in the hotel lobby. Eleven aloft hotels nationwide now host foster dogs for the adoption program.
Experts recommend travelers with a pet or pets call ahead of time and read the fine print on pet policies. Some hotels require a deposit or have limits on the size or number of pets allowed in rooms.
