Neighbourhood News Desk/Avi Arya: An Lieutenant-governor’s office has informed the Supreme Court that an Expert committee will be formed in order to deal with the concept of solid waste management in Delhi. Additional solicitor general Pinky Anand appeared before the Lieutenant-governor submitting names of the proposed members of the committee before a bench of Justice MB Lokur and Justice Deepak Gupta stating that the issue of garbage and disposal in Delhi was considered a serious situation indeed.
Justice Lokur told Anand “The committee would have to meet on a day-to-day basis to take stock of the situation”. ASG clarified that the people engaged in business enterprises or having commercial interests shouldn’t be made members of the panel and suggested that people from the resident welfare associations can be its members.
L-G’s decision to form a committee that is based on garbage disposal comes in the backdrop of the top court that is passing some scathing remarks against the civic agencies for failing to clean up landfill sites in Delhi. Top court had said that in the last hearing asked the L-G to frame a workable and implementable policy.
