Neighbourhood News Desk/Avi Arya: District magistrate says that even though negotiations keep continuing based on the land prices for the proposed international Airport in Jewar, around 500 farmers have agreed to hand over their lands for the project. This was after Prabhat Kumar the YEIDA chairman on August 25th proposed a rehabilitation package through an integrated township.
BN Singh of the Gautam Budh Nagar district magistrate said “About 500 farmers have agreed, talks are still going on. There was a section of farmers who wanted plots in place of flats that were being offered as part of the compensation package. The YEIDA chairman — who is negotiating with farmers — had agreed to that also”.
Sources say that the government is keen on the negotiations at the earliest and Prabhat Kumar, chairman of YEIDA, has confirmed a budget clearance of Rs 800 crore for the Jewar airport project by the Uttar Pradesh government in its first supplementary budget for the 2018-19. While farmers still continue to talk with the district administration officials, Arun Vir Singh CEO of YEIDA maintains the new offer focusing on rehabilitating the affected farmers in an integrated township as per their demand.
