Neighbourhood News Desk/Avi Arya: Officials have said that soon Chandni Chowk will be the first locality in the capital where only pedestrians, cycle rickshaws and e-rickshaws are only allowed between 9 a.m and 9 p.m daily. This decision was taken at a governing body meeting of the Unified Traffic and Transportation Infrastructure centre (UTTIPEC) and was held under the chairmanship of Lieutenant-Governor Anil Baijal.
States that the UTTIPEC approves the pedestrianisation of Chandni Chowk, officials say that the timeline for implementing the move is yet to be decided. All types of vehicular traffic except for emergency vehicles such as fire tenders and ambulances are only allowed from 9 a.m to 9 p.m in the area.
UTTIPEC said that a symmetrical section is proposed, considering its historical values, and for the movement of fire tenders and emergency vehicles. Delhi government’s Public Works Department (PWD) has been asked to execute the redevelopment plan of the area.
