Neighbourhood News Desk/Avi Arya: Through the use of a mobile app called Geo-Tagging, residents of Gautam Buddh Nagar can officially register the names of the trees they select. After the plants were registered, the state will monitor these plants.

This app is used by the citizens to register themselves along with details and a picture of the plant they selected. Geo-tagging also adds the geographical information to different types of media such as pictures or videos.

Geo-tagging’s main objective is helping in checking false plantation claims and in monitoring the plants as well. This app was launched on August 15th when a massive afforestation drive was carried out across Uttar Pradesh.

A senior official of Gautam Buddh Nagar forest department said, “People can download the application for free from Google Play Store. They can register themselves using mobile phone number, enter plantation details, and the species’ details along with a picture”.

Mr Srivastava said, “Geo-tagging is being done for all the plants and trees which have been planted and all plants which will be planted in the future”.
