WhatsApp seeks RBI approval to expand services

Neighbourhood News Desk/ Garima Kotroo: The leading messenger platform, WhatsApp is seeking an approval from the Reserve Bank of India to expand its payment services for all its users across the country. As per the letter, the company’s spokesperson said, “Today, almost 1 million people are testing WhatsApp payments in India”.

The Facebook-owned company has urged to expand WhatsApp BHIM UPI and also demanded “level playing field” for all the companies offering payment services to regulate the monetary system transparently. 

However, WhatsApp’s ambitious payment service aim has been bind over concerns of authentications as the company has security risks for consumers.
