Neighbourhood News Desk/ Simran Virdi: The central government has recently put a ban on a colistin (drug) which is also known as polymyxin E. This antibiotic is widely used in the poultry industry so that chickens gain weight faster. The usage of such drugs has been found in humans. Doctors call colistin a “last hope” antibiotic because it is used to treat patients with infections resistant to most drugs. Further, the drug advisory body decided that this drug should be ban for use in animals.
