Neighbourhood News Desk/ Simran Virdi: According to the NGT, less than 2% of the Yamuna accounts for 76% of river pollution. The committee also said that the Yamuna is fighting to stay alive. It won’t be possible to renew the Yamuna unless the minimum environmental flow is provided because it remains dry in some stretches for almost nine months in a year.
National Green Tribunal Chairman AK Goel directed the officials to make an action plan and detailed report on cleaning of the Yamuna river by December 31st. In the action plan, it is mentioned that the Yamuna river flows 54km, from Palla to Badarpur via Delhi and 22km from Wazirabad to Okhla altered 2% of industrial and domestic waste. The committee has suggested forming the team of scientists to carry out inspections.
