Enviorment department sets proposal to protect wetlands

Since several ponds like johars, baolis and lakes in Delhi have either been trespassed or turned into dump yards. The Environment department of the Delhi Government suggested in setting up a wetland authority, where a body can look after the preservation and revival of the water bodies in Delhi.

Currently, several agencies such as the Delhi Jal Board (DJB), Delhi Development Authority (DDA), Public Works Department (PWD) and municipal corporations are put in charge of preserving and restoring wetlands in Delhi.

This was done in a meeting where the Delhi environment minister Imran Hussain asked the environment and forest department to prepare a proposal and introduce it before the cabinet itself.
