While various government agencies spend crores of rupees in order to provide the people of Delhi a pedestrian-friendly road infrastructure. The main challenge in Delhi is actually walking on the pavements.
The reason is that the majority of the pavements like the Street Design Guidelines, which were approved by the Unified Traffic and Transportation Infrastructure (planning and engineering) Centre (UTTIPEC) in 2010.Eventhough the guidelines, aren’t mandatory on government agencies to follow, they did give specific details of how pavements and streets should be like. But instead there are various obstacles such as; vehicles parked on pavements, broken and uneven pavement surface, missing ramps etc. To add more to the worries of the pedestrians on this stretch, the East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) has even constructed a public toilet right in the middle of the pavement.
