On January 22, 2019, Delhi employment minister Gopal Rai said that the job fairs which were organized by the government had recruited fewer numbers in the past two years. And so, the blame was put on demonetization.
He said that the two-day job fair which was attended by 79 companies concealed 14,000 candidates, out of which only 5,000 were shortlisted for recruitment. The minister also said that the departments of the Delhi government were highly understaffed and was running with only just 20%-30% of the total staff strength, so far no new recruitment was done.
