In order to bring down immersion pollution of the Yamuna River in the future, authorities that have been directed by a National Green Tribunal-appointed committee in Delhi. Their purpose is to explore the possible chances of creating artificial ponds and pits in various localities for idol immersion.
This idea came from the government authorities where it was discussed in a meeting by the two-member NGT-appointed Yamuna pollution monitoring committee. This meeting was held in December, 2018. The issue came due to the increase of pollution in the Yamuna River, when the test results that came from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) revealed in the Yamuna concentrations of chromium, lead, nickel and mercury.
