It was said on February 20, the Jamia Millia Islamia University (JMI) had completed a process that is said to have lasted a whole year. This process involved conserving and digitizing of rare books and manuscripts in order for them to be available online at the (JMI)’s central library.
University has a total of 2,500 rare books and manuscripts, but out of which only 2,230 has been digitized so far. Without a proper digitization setup at the campus, the entire process was done through the use of DSLR cameras in collaboration with Iran Culture House in Delhi.
After the digitizing project, the National Archives of India gives an assurance of Rs.10 lakh for financial assistance to the university. This is for setting up its own digitization and conservation unit for the archives.
