On February 28, an underpass was launched by the Union minister of state for urban affairs Hardeep Singh Puri in order to give signal-free access between the Vasant Kunj to the Delhi airport. This underpass is below the national highway-8 and two flyovers in south Delhi’s Mahipalpur and Aerocity.

Delhi lieutenant-governor (L-G) Anil Baijal and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Ramesh Bidhuri were also present at the opening ceremony. This new-route will help the commuters by freeing them from heavy traffic in the Mahipalpur area for those heading to the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) and Gurugram from south Delhi’s Vasant Kunj and Munirka.

Underpass and the new flyovers, which are a part of the Mahipalpur bypass project, on the Vasant Kunj-Mahipalpur stretch will cut the time taken by 15-20 minutes. Central Public Works Department (CPWD) begun this project on January 23, 2018 and was scheduled to be completed in March 2019.
