In order to help in shorten queues at the airline check-in counters, Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) plans to soon launch what’s known as the ‘Digi Yatra’ initiative which is part of which flyers will be issued known as “e-tokens”. These will act as boarding passes and allow them to go directly for security checks.
These are valid from one to three months. According to the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), they’re expected at the Delhi airport in the next five to six months. The initiative is being administered by the ministry of the civil aviation. Officials said that they will be available through a mobile app, which has yet to be launched.
The officer said that the tokens will give passengers access into the terminal building and they can directly head to the security check area. If they wish to drop their checked-in baggage, they can do so by going to the baggage drop area. The entire process is expected to take not more than 10-15 seconds per passenger.
